Winter shopping in Moscow. Part II. Some presents...

As always, I couldn't resist buying some books for my daughter. I was trying to find re-editions of those I read myself in childhood, with the same illustrations (I still remember all of them), hope she would appreciate it. 

Some "literature" for me...

And this one is a great book our neighbour presented to me. "The Knitting Alphabet" by                 M.V. Maksimova (1990). There is a plenty of knitted techniques explained, including the short rows (I've never met it in other russian knitting books).

On the page of this book I recognised the models from the my mothers' little knitting library. It was a set of kind of postcards with one pattern on each of them edited early in 80's.

Can't help sharing this "small" collection of books brought from Russia. I don't support the electronic books and the acid colored and meaningless Wings, Barbie etc. stories for children. I'll always buy books, good old books.

Breathing and working again...piano piano.

Last days I haven't worked a lot. And it's frustrating when a simple illness makes you enable to do anything. Now I can give you a health advice - don't exaggerate with nose drops. 

Another pro - my husband felt so much pity for me, that he gave me a gift prepared for another ocasion.

Fashion Sourcebook 1920s is illustrated with over 600 original photographs, drawings and prints, rapresenting the seasonal fashion styles of the 20th century. It focuses on the Art Deco period with its fascinating beaded dresses and cloche hats.

Knitting books I have (for now)...

These are the books which made me change my opinion about illegible (how I used to think) old patterns. What a pitty that I haven't bought in time the first volume of "A stitch in time". It is out of print and there is a little hope there will be another edition. 

"My grandmother's knitting" is one of my favourites. Contains not only beautiful patterns, but also the articles about the designers with biographical fotos from their family's archieves. I liked a lot the colours  of "Keepsake scarf" by Rodger P. Murry, "Vintage gloves" by Robin Melanson and "Minerva bonnet" by Teva Durham has a brim made with particular technique I've never used before. 

"Brave new knits" has pushed me to start this blog. I'm not sure that my husband is still so happy about giving it to me as a present for the 8th of March.

My precious collection

Another passion - cross-stitch. Unfortunately, there is so little free space in our appartment. The walls are covered with furniture. May be, someday, we'll have a new house to decorate. One room for one particular issue. For now, I'm collecting the most beautiful books and magazines. And an enormous amout of patterns found in internet. The main problem is to choose.  Later I will show some projects, completed and in process.
